BIAvi is a special Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) tool. This sounds complicated but it is simple. BIAvi measures visceral fat by testing the resistance of the alternating current as it passes through the abdomen. The science behind BIAvi demonstrates that different tissue types conduct electricity at different rates, for example fat is a poor conductor while muscles are good conductors. Each tissue, whether bone, blood or organs such as lung or liver, have typical resistance values and can be identified and measured with BIAvi.
HOW BIAVI DIFFERS FROM OTHER BIOIMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICES
The common BIA devices measure the body by sending electrical impulses in a longitudinal direction to measure the whole body. Some measure from hand to foot, others from foot to foot. This trajectory is variant rich sending the impulse through almost all body tissues except the contents of the head. The common BIA device cannot account for the degree in variants between for example arms which cause a higher resistance than legs or the trunk which even only makes up 5% of the whole body resistant. The common BIA devices do not focus on only one body part and therefore changes in the abdominal area which are of most concern regarding health can not be detected by a BIA longitudinal measurement.

THE CONCLUSION OF THE BIAVI DEVELOPER
We measure the fat where it counts…the visceral fat, because only this deep belly fat has a particularly high reliability to identify health concerns. We call this BIAvi measurement, the transimpedance measurement. With BIAvi we can measure the fat layers of the subcutaneous tissue directly below the measuring sensors, identify the lower resistances of the muscle layer and finally accurately measure the conductive visceral adipose tissue.
The BIAvi displays the values as the device rests directly on the belly, and these values have such high reliability, BIAvi does not need any further information, such as the body weight. The changes of the metabolically active visceral fat can be followed daily as opposed to the more common measurement of the under-skin fat which alters rather slowly. This is why skin fold measurements are not meaningful to indicate immediate health changes.
Standard BIA analyses (even with professional devices like those used in clinics) can not measure the visceral fat. BIAvi closes a technological gap and tackles the problem at the right place.
